The advent of fluoride in toothpastes and mouthwashes as well as better education in keeping teeth clean mean that UK children have the best teeth in several generations.
Prevention is always better than the cure and we promote this message in all the children we care for at Bancroft Dentistry.
Treatments like fissure sealing are an easy way to protect a child’s permanent molar teeth against decay.
As the teeth erupt into the mouth, the rough chewing surfaces are particularly prone to decay as food particles get stuck in the tiny fissures on the tooth surface.
Children are not always great brushers, and so decay can set in. Fissure sealing is a very simple procedure where the tooth surface is chemically cleaned and then a thin layer of liquid plastic is run into the fissures, which is then set hard, effectively sealing the fissures. The plastic will slowly wear away naturally.
‘Brush and Learn’ sessions with our dental hygienists are an excellent way to introduce good oral hygiene habits at an early age and the key to keeping teeth in the best condition for life.
