White Fillings

For over 150 years, cavities were filled with a mixture of metals, including silver and mercury it has been perfectly normal to see dark grey areas in someone’s mouth when they laughed.

However, the latest technology available allows us to match the strength and longevity of this old material, with one that we can closely match to the colour of your own teeth, so close in fact, that your white fillings look completely natural.

You don’t have to wait until your old silver fillings wear out before having them replaced with white ones, but, if you have dark or unsightly fillings that show when you are laughing or smiling, they can be replaced simply to improve the way your smile looks.

White filling materials have advanced so much, even in the last decade, that we can place them almost anywhere in the mouth with complete confidence.

Root Canal Treatment

The specialty of treating the inner part of the tooth, endodontics, deals exactly with this problem and how to keep teeth that may once have had to be lost.

When, through either dental decay or trauma, a tooth loses its blood and nerve supply, bacteria spread throughout the root canal system and the resulting infection can often lead to a painful abscess. Left untreated, this will ultimately cause destruction of the bone surrounding the tooth and eventually the tooth will become loose. In order to resolve the infection the root canals must be thoroughly cleaned.

Once this has been achieved the canals are re-shaped and then an inert rubber filling placed within the now empty nerve chamber to provide a seal against any further re infection. Teeth that have been root treated feel no different to your own teeth; they just won’t register any hot or cold sensations.
